How To Get A Whiter Smile This Christmas

As Christmas draws closer, the desire for whiter teeth is common for many. With Christmas parties and new years events to attend, its important you smile is as flawless as can be.

There are many reasons why people get yellow teeth, these include genetics, what kind of food and drink you consume, and how well you practice oral hygiene. To figure out how to get whiter teeth at Christmas, read our tips below

1. Sodium Bicarbonate and Lemon Juice.

Sodium bicarbonate is mildly abrasive; gently scrubbing away surface stains to return teeth to a whiter shade. Combining Sodium bicarbonate with a few drops of lemon juice to use to create a thick mixture. Apply this mixture to your toothbrush and use twice a day to clean your teeth. Sodium bicarbonate often appears in soaps, cleaning products and shampoos and is known for its amazing cleansing properties. It will also reduce the acidity of the lemon juice, which acts as a natural bleach of sorts.

2. Strawberries, Salt and Baking Soda and in a paste mixture

Strawberries are high in Vitamin C, which can help break-down plaque that is causing your teeth to look yellow. It also has an enzyme called malic acid, which may help to remove surface stains. Mixing this fruit with salt and baking soda makes a gentle but powerful mixture that cleans and whitens teeth naturally. The salt acts as an abrasive portion of the paste, physically scrubbing away stain-causing gunk, and the baking soda is an extra touch that is optional.

3. 'Oil Pulling'

‘Oil pulling’ is a unique, old, remedy that people swear by to help whiten teeth. It doesn’t sound like the most pleasant thing in the world, but I actually don’t mind the taste, and I think it does make a difference in the color of your teeth. It won’t make a difference by “bleaching” per say, but lauric acid in coconut oil can rid your teeth of bacteria found in plaque that can make them yellow. It is also supposed to promote gum health, and help keep your breath fresh.

4. At Home Teeth Whitening Kits

The take home whitening kits provide more permanent results over a longer time scale whereas the in-surgery laser whitening offers immediate results.  A combination of the two provides the perfect solution to both immediate and long-term whitening. This varies from individual to individual and also the type of whitening system used.  Some people respond very well to teeth whitening and have dramatic whitening results whereas others may notice very little difference at all.  Our dentist will be able to advise you on the likely results expected with your teeth. We also have a page on teeth whitening and the safety of it hereThe kits you receive from a qualified dentist will be more effective than internet purchased kits.  You can book in to get your teeth whitened for £199 here.
